Recently I was given by my health visitor a new NHS guide for
children aged birth-5 years common childhood illnesses booklet. It’s
really been useful the last couple of days as my LO has had a fever. I
looked inside the booklet and there was a specific page just for fever
and how to treat it. Not only does it just cover this but it cover
various illnesses and how to manage them, what signs to look out for and
when it’s time to call the doctor. There’s a lot of hint and tips with
advice from doctors, nurses and midwives.
From a guide to services and learning the basics this booklet covers;
The first few months;
Being sick
Crying
Nappy Rash
Rashes & dry skin
Safer sleeping
Sticky eyes & conjunctivitis
Teething trouble
Common Childhood Illnesses
Asthma
Chicken pox
Constipation
Coughs, colds & flu
Ear problems
Fever
More serious conditions
Meningitis
General welfare
Allergies
Upset tummy
Burns & scalds
Choking
Household accidents
How to resuscitate a child
Immunizations
And useful contacts.
This might all sound like basic things but when it comes to your
child or baby actually becoming ill as parents we all do worry and
wonder whether or not to call the doctor. This booklet talks you right
through the problems, how their caused, and how to look after and sort
the illness/problem.
It’s a super little booklet and one I think that all parents should have to hand.
To get a copy of one these useful booklets please contact your health visitor or visit the NHS website for more information.
